Privacy

Your work stays yours.

Karo is designed as a private, local first work companion. This notice explains what the current app stores, what leaves your device, and the controls you have.

Last updated 9 August 2026

The short version

Your queues, notes, focus history, pause history, drink logs, installed tools, and preferences are stored in your browser on your device. The current version does not send that workspace content to a Karo account or analytics service.

Information Karo stores

Karo stores the information you choose to enter, including:

  • queue items, custom queues, and completion state;
  • notes, note groups, and pinned state;
  • focus sessions and timer preferences;
  • guided pause history and reminder preferences;
  • drink type, quantity, and time when you log a drink;
  • the installed tool list and JavaScript plugin files you choose to import;
  • theme, install prompt, and other interface preferences.

This information is productivity and wellbeing context. It is not a medical record.

Tools and local plugins

Built in tools run inside Karo and process their inputs locally. A JavaScript plugin you import is stored in IndexedDB and included in a backup you create. Karo does not upload plugin code or plugin inputs.

Imported plugins run in a short lived browser worker without direct access to Karo notes, queues, cookies, the page interface, network requests, or browser storage APIs. Review a plugin file and trust its source before installing it. You can remove it from the Tools page at any time.

Where it is kept

Workspace data is kept in IndexedDB, with local browser storage used only as a compatibility fallback. Karo also asks the browser for persistent storage so it is less likely to be removed automatically. Your browser and operating system still control storage, so clearing site data or uninstalling the app can remove it.

You can create a portable JSON backup from Settings. That file goes only where you choose to save or share it.

Network and device information

Loading Karo requires normal web requests for the app files. A hosting provider may receive standard request information such as your IP address, browser type, and request time. Karo has no advertising tracker.

Karo uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate page views and referral sources. It may process details such as the page visited, referrer, general region, device type, operating system, and browser. Vercel Web Analytics does not use third-party cookies or associate this information with workspace content. Karo does not send your queues, notes, focus history, pauses, drinks, blocklist, or preferences to site analytics.

The installed web app uses a service worker to cache app files for faster loading and offline use. Cached files remain under the control of your browser.

Notifications

Notifications are optional and require your permission. The current reminder engine runs locally while Karo is open, visible, and recently used. It does not currently use a server to send background push notifications after the app is closed.

Optional website shield

The optional Karo browser extension stores your blocklist and shield state in the browser extension's local storage. Karo sends it only whether a Focus or Custom timer is running. The extension uses browser rules to redirect a chosen blocked site to a local Karo page.

The browser labels this as access to all websites because a user can add any domain to the blocklist and redirects require host permission. Karo uses that access only to compare destination addresses with your list. When the shield turns on or your active blocklist changes, it also checks the addresses of currently open tabs so an already open blocked site can be redirected immediately. This check happens locally; tab addresses are not stored or transmitted.

Karo does not inspect, alter, store, or send page contents or browsing history. Requested and already open blocked pages are redirected to a packaged extension page, and the blocklist remains on your device.

Optional feedback

If you open the feedback form, Karo opens a form hosted by Tally. Nothing is sent until you choose to submit it. Karo may add the source area, page name, app version, installed or browser mode, and theme so the report is easier to understand.

Karo does not attach your queues, notes, focus history, pause history, blocklist, drinks, or other workspace data. The message, optional contact details, and any screenshot you choose to submit are sent to Tally and Karo. Check screenshots for private information before submitting them. Tally processes the form under its own privacy terms.

Your controls

You can view and change entries inside Karo, export a backup in Settings, revoke notification permission in your browser, or erase local data through your browser or operating system settings. Karo has no remote copy to recover after local data is erased unless you made a backup.

Changes and contact

This notice must be updated before Karo adds background push, additional analytics, or a new use of your information. For a privacy question, use the support contact shown on the page or store listing from which you obtained Karo.
